Industry Trend Analysis - PSA - Proton Tie-Up: Initial Thoughts - 13 MAR 2017

BMI View : A potential tie-up between PSA and Proton would provide a much needed capital injection to the struggling Malaysian car maker as well as offer access to new vehicle platforms, powertrains and technologies. PSA would benefit from access to Proton's under-utili s ed domestic manufacturing facilities which it could use as a production and export base for expansion in the ASEAN region.

If finalised, French automaker Groupe PSA's proposed plan to buy a stake in Malaysian carmaker Proton would allow the former to grow its sales volumes in both Malaysia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region while the latter would gain from much needed capital. In this piece of analysis, we give our initial thoughts on the potential tie-up.
