Healthcare M&A has remained remarkably resilient in 2010, owing to the industry's attempts to combat its stalling drug pipeline and future growth problems with acquisitions, The sector boasts the lion's share of global transactions so far in 2010, attracting deals worth a combined US$45.9bn, according to Dealogic data. Even though deal value is down by 40% from the same stage last year, it is important to remember that Pfizer 's acquisition of Wyeth - which was worth US$68.4bn alone - was completed during the same period in 2009. In 2010 to-date, Swiss firm Novartis 's US$28.1bn acquisition of a 52% stake in Alcon ranks as the largest healthcare deal.
