Consolidation in Brazil's retail sector is ramping up as smaller businesses are ripe for takeover and there is no shortage of larger, cash-rich players which are keen to take advantage of the opportunity to expand market share in the high growth industry. One of these players is Grupo Silvio Santos which owns the electronics and home-appliance chain Bau Crediario. The group said on June 15 that it plans to increase its current 20 outlets 10-fold via acquisition by August in order to become one of Brazil's top seven retailers.
