The fourth Japanese outbound pharmaceutical deal in less than a year was announced on September 2 by Shionogi. The prescription drug firm said that it will buy US-based Sciele Pharma for US$1.4bn. Shionogi will pay US$31 a share for Sciele, a premium of 57% to Sciele's six-month share price up to August 29, and a 61% premium to its August 29 closing price.
