Corporate activity continues apace in the IT industry this week, as US giant Cisco announced that it will pay US$215mn for venture capital (VC) backed open-source start up firm PostPath. The acquisition marks the latest move in the company's continuing attempts to beef up its online workplace collaboration capabilities, a process it began in 2007 with the US$3.2bn acquisition of WebEx. Cisco VP Charles Carmel has said that the acquisition will augment the collaboration platform established with that acquisition, and enable Cisco to increasingly compete with Microsoft's Exchange services.
