South Korea's finance ministry has said that it will immediately privatise Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), but will not privatise the country's public utilities and health care insurance. The decision comes after discussions last week between the finance ministry and the ruling Grand National Party. This heralds a major policy turnaround for the GNP, which took office in February on a platform of privatisation, as well as plans to grow the country's financial sector.
