General Electric Pursues Another Spin Off

Just two months after the divestiture of its century-old appliance division, US conglomerate General Electric Co has announced that it will pursue its plan to spin off its entire Consumer & Industrial segment to existing shareholders. GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt has been under increasing pressure from shareholders to spin off the firms slower growing units, after lowering 2008 forecasts. When the appliance division went on sale a month later, GE said it would not rule out a spinoff of the broader group.
