This week saw yet more turmoil in the financial sector, with investment bank Lehman Brothers and mortgage lender ResCap pulling out all the stops to raise much needed capital. However, on a more positive note there has been increasing M&A activity in numerous US industries. Telecoms stood out this week, with Verizon taking the place as the US' leading telecom via its proposed acquisition of Alltel.
