Trading in the shares of Chile's largest grocery retailer D&S was suspended on March 10 2008 after rumours emerged that the firm was in takeover talks with US retail giant Wal-Mart. A report in local newspaper El Mercurio suggested that the US firm was eyeing D&S as a possible acquisition target as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in Latin America.
