Volatility is again the watchword for the US equity markets. Last week saw 400 point gains followed by 300 point losses for the Dow Jones index, as investors initially took comfort from the Bear Sterns rescue package and the 75bps of easing by the Fed, before becoming concerned by other potential banking sector problems.
