Shareholder activism has now entered the mainstream as an investment approach designed to agitate for corporate change, whether in terms of strategy, structure or management. The recent credit crunch has limited the scope for highly leveraged transactions, which, in turn, has increased the appeal of investor activism as a means of achieving significant returns based on relatively small investments.
