Concerns Over Digicel-Claro Asset Exchanges in Jamaica

Digicel Group and América Móvil are to exchange assets in Jamaica, El Salvador and Honduras, three markets where they currently compete with one another. While América Móvil's purchase of Digicel operations In El Salvador and Honduras will not give it a dominant share of those markets, Digicel's purchase of Claro Jamaica leaves it with an unassailable market share and may yet be rejected on anti-competitive grounds, BMI believes. Further, the companies also compete in Panama. BMI believes consolidation could also occur there.
