VimpelCom Acquires Controlling Stake In Sky Mobile

News: Russia-based telecoms operator VimpelCom has exercised its option to acquire a 50.1% stake in Menacrest, owner of Kyrgyzstan-based mobile network operator Sky Mobile , reports Bloomberg, citing Russian newspaper Vedomosti. VimpelCom acquired the stake by writing off Kazakhstan-based Crowell Investments' debt, worth US$150mn. The operator has not specified as to when it will exercise its option related to the remaining 49.9% stake.
