Government Approves NITEL Sale, But Chances Of Successful Deal Are Slim

Nigeria's Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has received government approval to sell former state-owned fixed-line monopoly NITEL to New Generation Telecommunications, a consortium that offered US$2.5bn in a February 2010 tender. In view of the controversies surrounding the bid, and Nigeria's current political climate, CFW believes that it may not be plain sailing for the deal.
