France Télécom will purchase 40% of alternative Moroccan operator Médi Télécom (Méditel) for a consideration of EUR640mn. This values the business at EUR2.14bn. The transaction forms a key step in France Télécom?s ambition to expand aggressively into Africa and the Middle East. CFW sees the acquisition as being highly complementary to France Télécom's mobile and broadband plans for the region and a threat to a number of regional players keen to add Morocco to their African footprints.
