Windstream Buys Q-Comm To Build On Broadband And Business Focus

US-based regional fixed-line telecommunications operator Windstream Corporation has agreed to acquire privately owned fibre network operator Q-Comm Corporation for around US$782mn. The transaction includes Kentucky Data Link (KDL) and Norlight, Indiana-based alternative operators that are primarily focused on business service provision. Set to conclude in Q410, the acquisition is the third by Windstream this year and highlights its determination to future-proof itself in the fixed-line market, a sector in inevitable decline as customers increasingly move towards mobile networks for their communications needs.
