ABI Could Launch Bid For Modelo Following Dispute Ruling

CFW believes that the world's largest brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) could be set to launch a bid for Mexico-based Grupo Modelo after winning a two-year arbitration case against the firm. Since 1993, Anheuser-Busch has owned a stake in Modelo but following InBev's 2008 acquisition of the North American brewer, Modelo claimed that the new owner should not automatically gain control of Anheuser-Busch's stake. This claim has been successfully challenged and the ruling in favour of ABI means that the firm will retain its 50.2% stake in the Mexican business (and 43.9% of the voting rights).
