Telefónica Seems Interested In Telekom Srbija, But Could Face Challenges

It appears that Spanish operator Telefónica may have expressed an interest in acquiring the 40% stake in Telekom Srbija that the Serbian government wishes to sell. High ranking Serbian government officials have alluded to the likelihood of Telefónica participating in an auction of the stake in the fixed-line incumbent expected start sometime in H210. Although Telefónica has been consolidating its foreign operations and expanding through acquisitions in a number of international markets over the past two years, CFW thinks it could face a host of obstacles if it tries to buy a stake in Telekom Srbija.
