Sembcorp Explores India's Potential

In a joint venture (JV) announced May 26 2010, Singapore utilities heavyweight Sembcorp Industries and Indian firm Gayatri Energy Ventures Private Limited are to build a 1,320 megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in the south-east Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. CFW notes that the agreement is a strategically notable one for Sembcorp, marking its first foray into the fast-growing Indian energy market and representing the company's broader ambition to expand into the high-demand growth markets of Asia and the Middle East.
