Forth Ports' Takeover Collapse Sends Chills Through The UK Port Sector

The withdrawal of Northstream's offer to buy Scottish port operator Forth Ports is a negative signal for the UK's port sector at a time when port operators are on a feeble recovery path. Following the downturn even the hint of a lack of investor confidence in the sector can knock the wind out of the recovery. The uncertainty of the buyers, regarding the prospects for an economic recovery, echo BMI's bearish view on the short and mid-term recovery prospects of the UK trade in goods.
