New PE Fund Sub-Saharan Consumer Play

Further emphasising growing interest in the Sub-Saharan African consumer play, UK based asset management firm Silk Invest has setup a private equity fund worth EUR100mn targeting consumer side (processing rather commodity) equity investments across the continent. With per capita food consumption standing between US$100 and US$200 across much of the continent and long-term demographics supportive to long-term growth, BMI believes the growing trend towards Western funds looking to buy into the African consumer market is likely to significantly pick up pace over the coming years.
