Airline M&A Taking Flight Worldwide

As suggested by the latest news of a merger between United Airlines and US Airways , the consolidation push among flag carriers around the world has intensified. The hard-hit airline industry appears to have stepped up its attempts to stem combined losses that totalled as much as US$2.8bn in 2009 - according to the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), which represents around 230 carriers worldwide.
