Sovereign Wealth Funds: Deconstructing The Myth

Sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) are rarely welcomed by the countries of their target acquisitions. This report sets out to demonstrate that SWFs' bad press is not justified by their relative weight in global finance, the size of their transactions and of the stakes they are currently laying their hands on. In other terms, from a macroeconomic/financial perspective, there is little to justify target countries' suspicion of them. Instead, we must conclude that the main reasons behind their bad image is 1) their visibility at the corporate level in individual investments which are often high-profile and 2) their political ramifications.
