Schlumberger And Smith International In Possible Merger Talks

Oil services giant Schlumberger is in advanced talks to acquire another of the industry's major players Smith International, the Wall Street Journal reported on February 19. If the merger happens, it will create an oil-services behemoth with revenues about double those of Halliburton, which would be its nearest competitor. The company would be well placed for growth as demand for oil services is expected to turn around after struggling through the global economic downturn.
