Printing Industry Responds To Digitisation Through M&A

The US' Quad/Graphics is reportedly acquiring Canada's World Color Press for US$1.3-1.4bn, in a massive deal for the U.S. commercial printing industry, which is made up of about 35,000 companies with more than US$100bn in annual revenue. The deal would generate North America's second largest commercial printer by sales. World Color prints Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone, Crate & Barrel's catalog, and Yellow Book directory, while Quad/Graphics prints Newsweek, GQ and LL Bean's catalog. Shareholders of World Color would get a 40% stake in the new company, which would list on a US exchange. This would bring Quad/Graphics to the public
