Avecia Deal Marks Greater Biologics Commitment For Merck & Co

US drugmaker Merck & Co has further expanded its footprint in the biologics arena with the acquisition of UK firm Avecia Biologics. CFW believes the acquisition, announced in mid-December 2009, is further proof of Merck's strategy to achieve strong revenue gains in the sector, following the creation of Merck BioVentures 12 months earlier.
