M&A Activity In Phillipine Broadband Industry

Philippine conglomerate San Miguel Corporation (SMC) may buy a controlling stake in broadband operator Bell Telecommunications (BellTel), it is reported. SMC recently acquired an indirect one-third stake in value-added services provider Liberty Telecom Holdings and continues to pursue the purchase of fixed-line and mobile operator Express Telecommunications (Extelcom). If successful in these plans, SMC could single-handedly drive the next phase of consolidation in the Philippine telecoms market.
