Nestlé Mulls Over Speciality Foods Purchase

The Indian subsidiary of Swiss food giant Nestlé is considering the acquisition of Indian nutritional food provider Speciality Foods for an undisclosed sum. With revenues of INR288mn (US$6.2mn) for its financial year ending March 2009, Speciality Foods will contribute to Nestlé India's INR44.7bn (US$965.2mn) revenues only marginally. However, the acquisition would be in keeping with the Swiss parent's overarching focus on nutrition and wellness and could help it improve its footprint in these long-term promising categories in India.
