Airline Consolidation To Take Flight In US?

While rival US carriers are busy circling over Japan's two leading airlines, Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways, back at home, a successful push by several airlines to raise capital has cleared the flight path for consolidation across the recession-hit industry. Mindful of the competitive threat of both their international and domestic rivals, and of the need to have closer ties in order to cut costs, the US airline industry is beginning to shop for mergers on its own doorstep, not just for those with foreign peers.
