Competition Will Be High For Zain's African Assets

Maroc Telecom, the Moroccan incumbent and 53% owned by French multimedia group Vivendi, has agreed to the acquisition of a 51% stake in Mali's national telecommunications operator Sotelma at a cost of EUR275mn (US$383mn). Its fourth African acquisition, the deal has fuelled speculation of Vivendi's possible interest in purchasing the African assets of Zain.
