Competition May Hinder Axiata's Expansion Plans

Malaysia's second largest mobile-phone operator Axiata has firmly indicated its interest in acquiring the Sri Lankan and Cambodian assets of Millicom International Cellular (MIC), a Luxembourg-based telecommunications operator. It is rumoured that Axiata could pay up to US$200mn for MIC's Sri Lankan assets and US$500mn for its Cambodian units.
