March 2009 | M&A News AlertTelekom Slovenije has reached an agreement with Greek incumbent OTE to buy the Greek operator's Macedonian mobile unit Cosmofon and Macedonian retail chain Germanos Telecom Skopje (GTS), in a EUR190mn (US$251mn) deal that saw Telekom Slovenije successfully fend off competition from the likes of Turkey's Turk Telecom and Turkcell. While fresh subscriber growth opportunities in the mobile sector are becoming increasingly limited (BMI analysts estimate that the Macedonian mobile market grew by over 15% in 2008, taking penetration through the 110% mark with subscriber numbers in excess of 2.2mn), Macedonia's sector still offers significant potential through the deliverance of wireless value-added services and growth in postpaid subscriptions.
