Eidos Takeover Underlines Growing Trend

On February 12 Eidos, the British maker of the Tomb Raider videogames, announced that it had accepted a GBP84.3mn (US$120mn) takeover offer from Japan's Square Enix. CFW had forecasted that there would be more consolidation in the video gaming space in November (see 'Consolidation To Continue In Video Game Industry' CFW 24 November 2008), and this acquisition falls in line with the expectation that Japanese video game makers would continue to use acquisition as a method to diversify their product offerings.
