Hutchison/Vodafone Merger Bolsters Market Position
February 2009 | M&A News AlertHutchison Telecommunications and Vodafone announced on February 10 that they will merge their Australian businesses into an equal joint venture. The combination of Hutchison's '3' brand and Vodafone Australia will create a US$2.7bn firm with 6mn customers. By combining forces, the telecoms will have a market share of 27% and therefore be well-positioned to compete with the two market leaders Optus and Telstra, which control 31% and 43% of the market, respectively.
