Infrastructure M&A To Hold Up In 2009

CFW has already highlighted the opportunities for private equity firms in the infrastructure space, but a look back at 2008 shows that the challenges the industry will face in 2009 will provide major scope for M&A activity more generally as well. The same capital market turmoil that has produced delays and cancellations in projects across the board has also resulted in divestments, privatisations and distressed sales. As is the story across the board, in the infrastructure industry cash is king, and for those companies with strong balance sheets 2009 will produce no shortage of distressed assets for acquisition.
