With another week dominated by talk of bankruptcies and bailouts, it is easy to think that M&A activity has ground to a halt. A month ago Simon Collins, head of corporate finance at KPMG, said that 'the M&A market is all but frozen while politicians around the world grapple with the economic crisis'. However week in, week out, CFW sees M&A activity being dictated, to the contrary, by the knowledge that 'unprecedented valuation declines present unprecedented opportunities', as Barclays Capital's head of global M&A Paul Barker said recently.
