Gamestop Looks To Europe With Micromania Acquisition
October 2008 | M&A News AlertThe IT industry continues to produce a high level of M&A activity given the current climate, as US firm Gamestop, the world's largest videogame and entertainment software retailer, agrees to acquire French firm Micromania from private equity fund L Capital for around US$700mn. Micromania is France's leading video game retailer and boasts 332 retail locations throughout the country. For Gamestop, which currently has no retail presence in France, this represents a huge opportunity to penetrate the market while continuing its expansion in Western Europe. The deal will bring its European presence up to 1,077 stores out of a total of 5,800 worldwide.
