Australia's CSL To Buy Talecris For US$3.1bn

Australia's CSL, the world's second-largest maker of blood plasma products, has agreed to purchase US pharmaceutical Talecris Biotherapeutics Holdings. The company will pay US$3.1bn for North Carolina-based Talecris making it Australia's biggest acquisition by a healthcare company to date. To finance the deal, CSL raised US$1.55bn by selling stock and will pay the remainder with a combination of a loan from Merrill Lynch and cash.
