GE Aviation Steps Up The Competition
July 2008 | M&A News AlertGeneral Electric's (GE) aviation unit completed the acquisition of Czech Republic's Walter Engines on July 2. GE plans to make Walter Engines' turboprop engine competitive with Pratt & Whitney's (P&W) PT6 engine. Rival P&W is the principal supplier of these small jet engines globally, which are compatible with 30 different aircraft types, from crop dusters to commuter planes. Prior to the acquisition GE did not have an engine to compete against the PT6.
