Fresh Del Monte Acquires Three Costa Rican Businesses

US-based fruit firm Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc has announced the purchase of the Caribana group of fruit firms in Costa Rica for US$403mn. The group includes banana producer Desarollo Agroindustrial de Frutales S.A., pineapple producer Frutas de Exportacion S.A. and an affiliated sales and marketing company. The purchase increases Del Monte's land holding in Costa Rica by around 13,000 hectares and significantly increases the firm's banana and pineapple production capacity.
