A 'Perfect Storm' for Private Equity?

Michael Wilson, Managing Director at TA Associates, has told CFW that the current plight of the financial services industry will represent a huge opportunity for private equity firms, who are willing to make a long term play in the industry they have traditionally steered clear of. Wilson, a specialist in the financial services, described a 'perfect storm' for willing private equity firms. TA Associates, one of the oldest and largest private equity firms in the world, currently invests up to 25% of its portfolio in the financial industry. Most other firms come nowhere near this, meaning, stated Wilson, that the financial services, which represents a third of the United States' GDP, is drastically underrepresented in private equity portfolios.
