United Airlines Deal Experiences Turbulence
May 2008 | M&A News AlertJust weeks after CFW reported Continental Airlines' decision not to enter into a deal with United Airlines (the US's second-largest carrier), it seem talks with US Airways (the sixth-largest) have now fallen apart. According to both internal executives and external sources, talks have been put on 'permanent hold'. It is reported that United's board had raised serious questions about some of the practical and logistical aspects of the deal. Though both sides were strongly motivated by a desire to reach an agreement and get regulatory approval before a change in the US Presidential administration, final negotiations were never reached.
