Digicel Contracts Ericsson For GSM Roll Out

Pan-Caribbean mobile operator Digicel has announced a contract with Sweden's Ericsson to build a GSM/EDGE network in Honduras, where the operator acquired a licence in December 2007. Digicel, which has had considerable success in expanding operations across the Caribbean, recently moved into Central America, where mobile penetration rates are lower and there is increased scope for growth. As markets across the Caribbean reach maturity, Digicel has expanded its footprint, with operating licences in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Panama.
