Bharti Plans Emerging Markets Expansion

It was reported on April 25 that Bharti Airtel, India's leading mobile operator, may bid for South African telecommunications company MTN. Bharti's chairman and managing director, Sunil Bharti Mittal, played down the news by stating that the company has 'talks with people all the time' and that there was 'nothing on the table as of now regarding MTN'. However, the Financial Times (FT) reported that the two companies were at early stages in discussion and that Bharti was looking into financing options.
