Anti-Competition Fears Cast Doubt On Cement JV In Current Form
February 2012 | Corporate Financing AnalysisCFW View: The UK Competition Commission's concerns over a planned joint venture (JV) between Anglo American and Lafarge reflect both the structure and the continued weak performance of the UK building materials market. Having already intimated in August 2011 that the lack of effective competition within the sector - dominated by four large companies - may have kept prices artificially high, the Commission's latest findings cast fresh doubt over the proposed JV in its current form.
