Vimpelcom To Gain From Orascom Demerger

Following the split of Orascom Telecom into Orascom Telecom Holding SAE (OT) and Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding SAE (OTMT), OT's shares resumed trading on the Egyptian stock exchange on January 22 2012 following a two-month halt, while OTMT was floated separately. Assets were split between OT and OTMT 52/48 respectively. BMI believes the deal bodes well for Vimpelcom, the majority stakeholder of OT, although the outlook is not so bright for OTMT, which saw shares tumble 28%.
