CFW View: China's pharmaceutical industry will get increasingly more consolidated as large pharmaceutical companies acquire smaller rivals and non-compliant firms cease operations. While the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) sector will continue to play a major role in Chinese pharmaceutical exports, it is necessary for companies to develop finished drugs in order to obtain a higher value for their products. We also note that the biotechnology API sub-sector is emerging in the country as a result of the influx of 'returnees' and government investment into the overall biotechnology sector.
