The Stop-Start Nature Of US Equity Markets

For the past few months, US equity capital markets do not seem to have known whether they are coming or going. And in spite of the economic outlook for the US looking increasingly optimistic for the coming quarters - even if it is merely because the US is managing to avoid recession - it could be argues that they still don't. In October, markets enjoyed a strong period of performance that saw the benchmark S&P 500 index jump by 10.8% in what proved to be the strongest monthly performance for the index in the best part of twenty years.
