Bright Future For Verizon Following Spectrum Deals

US operator Verizon has agreed to pay US$3.6bn for 20MHz of spectrum from joint venture SpectrumCo; consisting of Time Warner Cable, ComCast and Bright House Networks, while applying to the US regulator, the FCC, to swap spectrum with Leap Wireless. These moves are pre-emptive attempts to handle future demand for data services, which is growing rapidly. The purchase of spectrum; comes days after the Leap Wireless agreement was announced. CFW believes the moves will help Verizon expand data services, improve relations with the US's key players in the cable market while limiting options for competitors. It will ensure Verizon will remain at the forefront of the US telecoms industry for some time, and BMI has a positive outlook for the operator.
