Entel-GTD Merger Creates New Competitor

Chilean operators Grupo GTD and Entel have signed a non-binding letter of intent that will result in the merger of the companies. The two companies have operations across the telecoms sector; offering mobile, fixed-line, broadband and pay-TV services. GTD operations will become subsidiaries of Entel, expanding the latter's presence in the fixed services market. CFW believes the larger entity will be a stronger competitor to rivals Claro and Movistar, both of which have an international presence.
